Money Moral Dilemma: Should my wife buy her cousin a birthday present?

This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks...
My wife has been repeatedly asked by her cousin to contribute to a birthday present for their partner. When we got married they didn't get us a wedding gift. While that's fine, shouldn't it work both ways?

Unfortunately the MSE team can't always answer money moral dilemma questions as contributions are often emailed in or suggested in person. They are intended to be enjoyed as a point of debate and discussed at face value.

Does your wife like the partner? If yes, it's up to her whether she buys them a present or shares in a big present. If not, SuperPikachu is giving good advice.
I need to think of something new here...

If the friend is asking repeatedly, maybe your wife should consider if an assertiveness course would be beneficial...

You sound petty by mentioning they didn't buy you a wedding present so maybe that's not actually 'fine'. Move on.

Confused about the title and the dilemma.
The title says 'friend' but the 'dilemma' says 'friend's partner'.

    How bizarre.

I'd drop her... that's no way to go on ...

    This phrase:
"asked by a friend to contribute to a birthday present for their partner"
has me stumped... utterly, utterly stumped that anybody could/would do this and think it's acceptable.

    Most bizarre.

    Surely the wife said 'Why?'
Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed. ;)

If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

Whilst the lack of information or misleading information of MMD is legendary, this one has to surpass every other one.

The wife's friend has just randomly asked to contribute to their partner's birthday gift on repeated occassions because........???

The question asks if the wife should buy her cousin a present but the scenario says the wife's cousin asks her to buy a present for her partner,

    Two different situations.

Do you really need advice on this? If so, I suggest you do as you would be done by. In other words, make your own decision and don't buy the requested present unless you really want to.

This seems to be a very mixed up MMD anyway. Are we all supposed to believe it is genuine, when the subject changes from "cousin" to "partner".
