My son purchased a gift from India and we tried it there it worked fine but when we plugged in it here in the UK it tripped my fuse box can you advise what is the best thing to do

You don’t say what the item is, but the sensible thing would probably be to get it checked by a professional, depending on the item there should be a someone who specialises in repairs locally to you.0 -

I would look at the plug to make sure you rewired it correctly, or does India use uk type plugs?
Other than that it may need someone with a multi-meter and basic fault finding experience0 -
Are you using an adapter with the original Indian plug?
There are several plug types used in India. Generally round in a triangle arrangement. But there is also one with 3 pins in a straight line.

The voltage and frequency in India is nominally the same as UK (230V / 50Hz) . The UK actually runs at 240V almost all the time as when we "standardized" with the EU at 230V, it was done by allowing 230V +10% (or -6%) so nothing had to change.
