Hi,
Getting ready to lay a gravel driveway and i've been getting prices for sub base material, ideally mot type 3, permeable.
Most places mention mot type 1 reduced fines, is this similar to the type 3 and has anyone use the reduced fines for a sub base.
Thanks

type 3 is larger stones and more permeable. Type 1 when compacted down properly can be a little less free draining.
I would still use type 1 though as it's not exactly water proof and anyway a driveway should be graded enough so the water runs away from the house.
Prep right and drainage won't be a problem.0 -
Out of interest, why do you want type 3? As per the post above the driveway needs to fall away from the property correctly anyway as the water will not drain through it before it makes it to the building. The fines in type 1 are what binds the sub base together. Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0
