If you have protected NCD and then are involved in an accident, do you lose that years NCD or do you still gain another year? :)

    You don't get any awarded for the year. (Assuming it's a fault claim)


    The NCD you had at the start of the year is the protected amount

    As above, it's not a case of losing that year you merely don't "earn" the additional year because you haven't been claim free during that period.

    You can start protecting (with some companies) after 3. I started protecting last year, after 4. Had a small 50/50 accident in January, just needed to know for my renewal.

    You still have the same amount of no claims as last year, but the premium is likely to rise.

    You get get xx% off your insurance, but instead of being rated at £500 your now rated at £1000.

    Or you maybe lucky and find its actually cheaper now you have had a claim. You never know with insurance.
