From next week, adverts from broadband providers will all have to show the average rather than the top speeds they offer - but the actual speed you get now won't change....

The average "Standard" (ADSL) broadband speeds are going to be interesting as it's there that the largest disparity will show.0

Need to show the MEAN speed- what most users get, and exclude Richard Branson who prob has a server hot wired to Virgin HQ!formerly known as skintpaul. I sometimes lurk / post local (Brighton) stuff, on the Competitions forum page.0

Except that Branson doesn't own Virgin Media. He doesn't even have a majority share holding. So if someone's stuck on a really slow line, then the supplier could get rid of them as a customer to push up the average speeds.If it sticks, force it.

....they already are; TalkTalk sold off their "standard" ADSL customers a few years ago and Sky are very selective about new customers and don't make any attempt to keep existing customers on slow lines.
Plusnet charge more for customers on the "unconverted " exchanges.which could be seen as a positive discouragement!0 -
Last weak RightMove said you could expect upto 76 Mbps. This weak it has suddenly dropped to17Mbps.
My connection is far better than that. So again another consumer cause has led to no one finding out what to expect and every one denying any speed possibilities!
Cleethorpes was Virgin up to 100 Mbps, now a paltry 17 Mbps
Troon Ayrshire was upto 100 Mbps now a paltry 17 Mbps
Coventry was Virgin up to 100 Mbps now a paltry 17 Mbps0
