What memory card for an older camera?

I've been given a Panasonic Lumix camera from 2004, model DMC-FZ20.
There is no SD card included. I can see from the booklet that it would have been a 16MB SD card included originally:D. It mentions getting a multi-media version for shooting videos.
I want to buy an SD card on eBay/Amazon, but what should I look for? Panasonic customer chat had no information.
I'd like a newer, faster card if it would work.

I would be very careful about ordering SD cards from Amazon or Ebay, a lot of them are fake and don't have the memory stated on them.0

Buy from a retailer who you know will honor returns without any fuss

Its the class which generally determines speed - 10 being the best
I have Panasonic DNC-TZ18 (quite old now)- with class 10 16GB - no probems0 -
Older cameras are likely to have a limit on card capacity, which may not by the capacity of the supplied card. If you don't have a manual for it, look for specs online
EDIT
ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/camera/om/dmc-fz20pp_mul_om.pdf
The table showing how many shots will fit on a card goes up to 1Gb (page 18), so that would seem to suggest that's the maximum it will take....0 -
This model definitely doesn't support SDHC which limits it to 2GB which seem to work apart from for TIFF files:

Don't spend any money on this dinosaur of a camera.0

Since the OP needs an SD card to make use of it, there seems no alternative but to buy one. Unless you want to donate them a freebie?0 -
I've purchased a Kingston 2GB SD memory card on eBay at £4, hardly a big spend, and I'll let you know how I get on.0
