DVLA - keeping revoked license as ID?

Hello,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place or if this seems like a silly question.

We recently wrote to the DVLA to report various medical conditions for my husband. His driving license has been revoked, which is exactly what we were expecting. We have no intentions of appealing, but were wondering, can he keep the old license just for ID or does it have to be returned?

Thanks in advance,
Cal

Just tell them that you cut it up, and put it in the bin.

Surely a Rovoke license is not a valid form of ID ?

I think you can get National ID cards these days? I'd be careful about keeping it. There are surely rules against that, and no idea what happens if you're caught.

    Why wouldn't it be?

Nobodys name has changed. Nobodys address has changed. Nobodys date of birth has changed.

On the other hand, a driving licence is simply a document that proves you are legally able to drive certain classes of vehicles.

Why is it then accepted as ID?

You would only be in trouble if you were caught driving.

It's no different to me keeping my old 'expired' passport.

That is its primary purpose, yes. But it also proves (with a level of certainty that satisfies the government) that you live at that address and look (a bit!) like the photo.

AFAIK most government departments, banks etc. ask for a "valid" or "current" licence, which would rule out the OP (if they bothered to check).

Thanks all for your answers, I appreciate your time. I think we'll have to phone the DVLA but fully expect they will tell us we have to return it to be destroyed, even though he has no intention of ever driving again.

Have the DVLA asked you to return the revoked licence? If not then keep it. No need to phone them.

And if you do return it, make sure you cut it up first before you put it in the envelope. I wouldn't be going sending back a full intact licence card through regular post. Revoked or not.
