No-one has mentioned Kyev... I passed through once and was entranced by the view of 'onion' domes from the train.

I've only been to Kiev/Kyiv with work, but I've had a bit of time to explore the city and I'd say it's definitely worth a visit.

Oddly i was recently in Prague and during a tour it was highlighted that Prague isnt in Eastern Europe, well not in their eyes anyway and it wasnt until i bothered to look at a map and realised that vienna and bari are more eastern than Prague.

    Amazing ehhh?

Oh and my input, other than the above fascinating info is Krakow, Budapest and Talinn.

If you want really 'Eastern' and are feeling adventurous, how about Kalmykia, the only Buddhist country in Europe. (Russian visa required.)

Second the suggestion of Ljubljana, lovely city plenty to see and places to eat and drink.

I also liked Bucharest, used to be called the Paris of the East and the area around Brasov. Lovely old town and again plenty of places to eat and drink.

Brasov is our final major stop on our Transylvania trip this June. Here's our full itinerary for anyone interested...
