Alliance Trust & VAT refund

I had a letter from AT advising that HMRC had allowed refund of VAT on an ISA account interest.
I returned the claim form well before the cut-off date.
I'm now told by AT that I did not return the claim form so no refund will be paid.
Anyone else had this problem?

Typical ATS, always losing paperwork or denying receiving it. One (of many) reasons why I left.
I did get my VAT refund, though.0
