Widow's benefits

My friend is recently widowed. She used to work part time only 15 hrs a week. She is in her mid seventies. Her state pension is not much. Does anybody know whether she can claim any widow's benefits or how she can increase her pension? It is not possible for her to live on the small amount of state pension she will now receive. Thanks
