Travel card quandary

Hi, I'm wanting a travel card for upcoming trip to Croatia (Kunas not EUR). To withdraw from ATMs so I don't need to carry large amounts of cash but also shop purchases. I've read a lot on MSE and other sites and have the following fears questions. I'd really appreciate any advice...

Monzo and similar
Have to send photo of ID and video of yourself. Fine as long as they don't get hacked. But pretty good chance of identity theft if they do.

Credit card such as Barclaycard platinum
Great as no fees or interest, even on ATM withdrawals. But MSE says using a credit card for ATM withdrawals can adversely affect your credit score.

Other prepaid travel cards on MSE
Prohibitive fees

Is there something out there that just works? Surely there's something I missed? Or do I resort to trusty old travellers cheques?

Thanks
MM

Credit card. Halifax Clarity. Been withdrawing cash on it for years and never had an issue with my credit score. I always pay off the cash withdrawal as soon as it hits the account using my mobile bank app.

Travellers Cheques? Do these even still exist? And even f you can still get them would they be easily changed in Croatia? Without a hideous fee?

You're missing Debit Card as an option. Metro Bank free across Europe and you can get hold of the card instantly if you are near one of their branches to open an account. Starling Bank a new app based current account has fee free withdrawals abroad.
  • Thanks bagand96, will seriously consider the credit card option. I looked at Starling and they ask for the same video and photo as Monzo. Maybe Metro not sure if they include Croatia as Europe.
