A question regarding taking up laminate flooring

We are carpeting our landng which means taking up the laminate flooring. The planks run right into the bedroom, where for the moment we would like to keep the laminate. Will a carpet fitter be able to cut through the laminate to make a threshold? Or do the planks have to come out whole?

No reason they can't be cut, the carpet fitter should be able to do it and should put a carpet edging strip - laminate metal edging where he makes the cut, there might be a minimal amount to plane of the bottom of the door if it is extremely close to the laminate currently as the strip will probably be slightly higher where the laminate slips inside it.Norn Iron Club member No 3530

well the quote includes an element for 'taking up current flooring' but I'll check0 -
The problem is they'll need cutting in situ, which is much harder than when you're laying them. A circular saw set to the depth of the planks will do it but you may have problems keeping it straight or going up to the edges.0

It's a job for an oscillating multi tool. It's easy to do but you should tell the installer before they turn up that its what you need them to do so they come prepared with the right equipment.Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

This is why I originally posted - just wasn't sure that every carpet fitter would have the sort of saw that you need to cut through boards in situ.0
