I bought a windows 7 cd off ebay and installed it on a new hard drive but it's not detecting the wireless card so is there a way to get it to show up in device manager so I can get on the internet.

In devive manager, choose "view" then "show hidden devices"
Does it show then ??
What shows under "network adapters" in device manager ?0 -

What is the make and model of PC ?0

You'll be in a catch 22 if you don't use an ethernet cable to get online and download the driver and/or other tools to set it up. Once it's online Windows may even find and install a driver but that's probably being optimistic.
It should show in device manager if it's powered on but if this is a laptop I suspect that's where the problem lies - if the laptop uses software to switch it on and off rather than a physical switch you could well be snookered if that won't run on Win 7 or you don't have it.0 -
Nope. I get machines like these as well. Usually they have Atheros or some obscure brand wifi card.
You will need to plug in an ethernet cable to get it online and then hop onto your PC manufacturer's website to get the drivers. Else get onto another machine and stick the drivers onto a USB stick and then plug it in and unpack.0 -
you need to download freeware like this to keep you whq drivers up to date, and windows does not do this

or go yoursef to reach manufacturers home page, then product0 -

I would avoid those like the plague, they not only install stuff you do not need (as reported in this very forum) but they are loaded with PUPS.

Just find the WAN card in device manager, it will either be an unknown device or it will be in Network adapters and be yellow or red.
Connect an ethernet cable and see if you can get it to be found automatically by searching from device manager
Or open up the laptop and see what model it is and get the bona fide driver. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -

After clicking view in device manager this is what it shows.
Microsoft ISATAP adapter.
Realtek RTL8102E/RTL8103E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20).
Wan miniport (IKEv2).
Wan miniport (IP).
Wan miniport (IPv6).
Wan miniport (L2TP).
Wan miniport (Network monitor).
Wan miniport (PPPOE).
Wan miniport (PPTP).
Wan miniport (SSTP).
Then on other devices it shows a yellow symbol by network controller.0
