Fidelity Index World via BestInvest

Found these two Fidelity Index World accumulation funds on BestInvest. They're different share classes but presumably both available for me to invest in. Can't differentiate the two. Why the OCF difference? Any ideas?

  • Different share classes are generally aimed at certain types of investor - advised etc. However, in the absence of any further info, looking at those 2 options I know which i'd go for ;)

The I is the cheapest clean class they do, which you can buy directly on Fidelity's own (relatively high platform fee) platform. Some rival or third party platforms will only be offered the more expensive W class which may encourage investors to go to Fidelity's place and not mind paying the relatively higher platform fee to get the cheaper fund. Looks like Bestinvest have managed to get access to both.

There is also a P class priced at 18%. Just go for the cheapest one you can access when taking into account the OCF and the platform fee to Bestinvest or Fundsnetwork or whomever.

Looks like institutional vs standard retail clean class. Institutional classes will tend to be cheaper, but have a high minimum holding value (which the platform can get around because the holdings of its customers are aggregated). If you are actually able to buy the I class, then there is no reason to settle for the other one.

Fidelity themselves (and Cavendish) seem to offer only the class P at 0.18%. www.fidelity.co.uk... HL only the class W at 0.20%.

So to let Bestinvest offer the class I at 0.15% is surprising. The one to go for if offered.

Thanks to all respondents. I have ISAs and a SIPP with Fidelity. This fund is the core of my portfolio there, but as Rollinghome pointed out they only offer the P class at 0.18%.

I'm transferring my fairly small work pension pot from a Standard Life Group Personal Pension to BestInvest so was surprised to see it cheaper there when browsing. Depending on asset allocation (to be decided) I may use that fund, and will see if I can get the I class.

Still waiting for the transfer to happen but last week I made a small contribution to my Best SIPP and managed to purchase the I share class. I've seen threads regarding other platforms realising they shouldn't have offered particular classes and switching client's money to more expensive classes. Will update if that happens.
