L&G house ins deal - not as good as MSE makes it seem!

I took out house insurance with Legal and General after going through confused.com a couple of weeks ago. I had seen the deal on MSE for Dec which involved putting in a code to receive £70 Pockit mastercard but didn't go through this site - think I got myself confused where I had seen all the deals as I'd trawled through so many sites! By the time I wanted to take out my insurance, the link on MSE wasn't working, despite it still being in date.
Anyway, I called L&G straight after buying online and asked them if I would be entitled to the MasterCard as I didn't want to miss out in the offer. After a lengthy conversation and the guy speaking to his manager, they agreed over the phone but I have today received a letter stating that I won't be receiving the card as the code cannot be used in conjunction with comparison sites.
I went through MSE just now to get an identical quote with L&G - if it were the same amount I would contact them and cancel the policy (as its within 14 days of start date) then take it out via MSE to enable me to get the card. However, the quote was a massive £102 over what I was quoted via confused.com - exactly the same cover, same excess amounts everything.
Long and the short of it - it would appear via MSE code page you are not being given the vouchers, and not only are L&G charging you for those vouchers, you are in fact paying over the odds for them.
Despite being thoroughly cheesed off that L&G agreed I could be sent the card, only to be told 3 weeks later I wont, I am glad I didn't use the MSE link.

You are doing the quote 3 weeks later, presumably also with a different start date, so you'd probably be more surprised if you got the same quote. L&G also sell multiple products are you checking its the same one?
Similarly insurers sell at different prices on their own website -v- the aggregators -v- telephone etc. Some of it can be as its different products, some can be due to different options defaulted in/out and others is purely different pricing due to the different behaviours of the customers.
Look at the baked beans made from a factory, all come from the same place but price will vary based on the recipe, brand put on the tin and where you buy it from even though they all come from the same factory.0 -
It's def exactly the same policy detail, I went through each bit. Start date is only 6 days different and they guarantee quotes for 30 days (I got my original quote on 6th Jan) so don't really understand how they would get away with increasing an identical quote by over £100. It's obviously just to cover the cost of the so called gift which is why they're now saying I can't have one!0

They will have to pay the aggregator at least £50 which is why they dont want to pay them that and you then £70. In theory there contract could demand that they pay them that now they've introduced you even if you buy from the other link so that could push up the price where as had you gone just via the other link the price would have been different.
A quote is guaranteed for 30 days but that doesnt mean prices only change every 30 days. As rating engines become more powerful/ configurable then there are some that even look potentially at the day/ time as a possible factor. Whilst I havent actually seen anyone thats implemented anything that far - though my knowledge is not that broad and is a little out of date - certainly one former client declined to quote on the aggregators on certain periods like friday night and were willing to quote for a broader range of risks on a monday morning.0 -
I signed up up for the same or similar deal in mid-December (£70 card + £10 Amazon voucher). Was meant to receive them after a month and I've not received anything. Called L&G today and they asked if I'd read the Terms & Conditions at the time of signing up, as I might not meet the conditions required to get the deal (without actually telling me specifically why). Even though I signed up via the MSE link and purchased building and contents insurance. Anyone else have any problems with this deal? L&G have said they'll look into and get back to me but I'm not hopeful!0

Followed the link to buy L&G Home insurance expecting to get the vouchers in January and nothing has turned up. Have mailed MSE with no reply. Massive scam?.... I'm well annoyed! They're still at it too with other vouchers.0

Yes, definitely a massive scam, I'd get the Serious Fraud Office involved if I were you. Or you could take a breath and calm down.
I know nothing about the offer, who actually provides the vouchers and what are the vouchers for?0 -
People should just concentrate on getting the best cover that suits them for a sensible price and not be swayed by Karcher Pressure washers, dodgy cashback deals that don't always pay out, meerkats, robots, toy dogs and whatever other paraphenalia seems to be on offer these days.0

What people dont realise is that when you go through an aggregator site you actually get offered different levels of cover, regardless of hat you put in. I did the same comparison and got different quotes. I asked L&G about it and they let me know that confused.com and such sites will offer a different level of cover automatically. I used MSE to make sure I had the right level of cover by generating my quote direct with L&G and getting the voucher they offered as well.0

Gosh! what sad times.
I have had some success with L&G.
I too took up the offer on MSE. I have received the £70 card and £10 new customer voucher.
Also went through Quidco and got the refused message. I have now put in a claim. Always hopeful ;0)The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0
