Morrisons Fuel Save: 3V Gift Cards to spend on Tesco?

Today's newsletter alerted me to Morrisons Fuel Save program where for every £10 you spend on a Gift Card you get 1p/l off fuel.
At first I thought that wasn't very useful because you'd need to be spending big on non-essentials to gain from it, but then I found the 3V Card option which apparently operates like a visa debit card for any online shopping, meaning you could theoretically buy ten £50 Gift Cards for a month's shopping for example, spend it all online with Tesco, and gain 10p/l from Tesco Fuel Save whilst simultaneously gaining 50p/l from Morrisons Fuel Save. But it just seems too easy, is there a hole in my diabolical plan?

Oh I think I might have found it. If you bought 10 £50 gift cards I don't think there's a way to combine any number of them into one transaction, at least without paying the charge to shift funds onto one card...
  • 3V already know about all the crafty scams and schemes people do, which means there is alot of restrictions in place on these cards. Certain retailers can't accept them, along with utility companies etc so you can't buy them to pay bills with either.

Hey there's nothing fraudulent in what I said, it's only a way of making perfectly legal use of special offers. I wouldn't condone any "scam".

The Morrisons website specifically lists "bills" as something you can use it for so I would be surprised if someone like Tesco would block it.

The real problem is combining gift cards, and the only way I can see to do that is via a Tesco gift card but I can't see that they allow top ups on their cards.

Chill, I didn't say you were doing anything fraudulent :)

What I meant is 3V know people buy these cards just to collect fuel saver vouchers, points, etc. So they have put alot of restrictions in place. They are marketed as gift cards not a easy way to collect fuel vouchers.

The problem you'll have is using multiple cards to pay for things, if you use online groceries and subscribe to Tesco's delivery package then you could just keep doing buys of £25 or less. However, I have found 3V cards have suddenly become alot harder to come by in the past couple of weeks, the Tesco's and Morrisons in my area (portsmouth) that once stocked them now no longer do and they no longer have a shelf space suggesting this is a permanent state of affairs. When did you last see one - are they still in your area?
  • Same in the Peterborough area. I've e-mailed Morrisons to ask why they are no longer stocking them yet continue to have them on their Fuel saver website as a "partner"
  • Morrisons FuelSaver promotion was a bit of a red herring. They expected queues of people every day buying gift cards. Whats happening now is a lot of the smaller stores are taking the cards out, or reducing the display size with less cards.
