Buy it now, I've been scammed again

Can anyone help me with this. I am trying to sell my Nokia 6230 on ebay. The first time I put it up for sale I was paid thru PayPal, who put the money into my account then took it out two days later. Luckily I hadnt posted the phone. I put it back up for sale and someone with a made up UK address (I checked the post code, it doesnt exist, I rang the phone number, doesnt exist) has bought it on BUY IT NOW. This person opened their account today, so has a zero rating (I blocked anyone bidding with a minus rating, but I cant block people with a zero rating). They want to pay me thru western union and want me to post it to Nigeria. Why am I being picked on like this? Doesnt ebay have ANY checks at all! Ebay are saying I have to pay both sets of fees for selling the phone, its a nightmare. Al advice very welcome.

How can someone take money out of your Paypal account? :o

I dont know! And paypal just keep sending me the same standard message. The money was in, then 36 hours later it was taken out. I've paid people by paypal and I didnt know I could take my money back.

Now I understand why some sellers have loads conditions in the item description. They must have be scammed too!

If the buyer did a chargeback from paypal then thats why they took the money back from your account but i didnt realise it could be done so quickly and they should of e-mailed you.

Have you had any contact from the original buyer? but as for the second buyer that is definately a scam do not send the phone, there has been a previous thread on this scam i will try and find it for you :)

did you accept the paypal payment or see it was there and leave it at that? Until you accept the payment they can withdraw it.

you dont need to accept payments with paypal. when a payment is sent it is added to your account straight away.
unless you withdraw the moeny to your back account, then paypal will refund the money if the payer requests the payment be returned. if your paypal account has no money, then paypal cannot touch your bank accounts.
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
  • Report this to ebay, file a non paying bidder thingy(!) if you didnt state western union in the options and they have refunded themselves via paypal I cant see how ebay will charge you for the ad. You should at least get a refund against your charges for final value %. Next time specify uk bidders only, I am sure there is an option for this when posting an item for sale, state 0 bidders are to email you prior to bidding in your description and if they don't then just cancel their bids.
Whatever you do don't go down the Western Union route, you do not get any insurance against fraudulent buyers.

I have bought a couple of items in Germany recently (not many accept PayPal) and they seem to take ages to accept the payment usually 3-5 days. I do not understand this. If I pay for something in UK or US it goes through straight away.

I have had a buyer take money out my account after paying (his error and he repaid it...so no problem).

    BUT

I am very worried that it is possible to do this.

Has anyone got proper answer to this problem. Can people pay into your account and take it back out.

(I can understand that if there is a dispute PayPal would freeze the amount.)

Some of them think we're stupid.. Put my 7600 on Ebay with a Buy it Now on (bought for £44.99 and sold for £85).
Got a question asking if i'd send it to India for the same total price. Maybe he'd have more success if he hadn't used a German email account
  • Ebay don't care about if people lose money. They make a mint out of it, and really only a small % actually get ripped off. However to those who are ripped, it's not much fun for them.

Their guarantees are unfortunately not worth the (screen) paper they are written on. Seen too many people lose money
