Would you like to join a live debate on Channel 5 next Monday?

Hi everyone

Channel 5 is looking for members of the public who want to talk about their debt experiences or have things to say on the subject as part of a studio audience for a live TV debate on the state of personal debt in the UK.

It's ideally looking to speak to people based in or around London and will pay travel expenses.

The debate is 10pm next Monday, 17th March at the ITN studios on Gray’s Inn Road, Central London.

If it's something you'd like to join in with please email BEN.MILLER@ITN.CO.UK.

Reply below if you're going to be on and are happy to tell us. It'll be great to see some of our DFW'rs live on TV!

Let our News Team hear your story too

Also, our MSE News Team is always looking for people with a great debt-free story to tell. So whether you're joining the debate above or not, if you're working hard to clear your debts or have cleared them and have a good story to tell email news@moneysavingexpert.com.

(Unfortunately the team receives so many emails it'll only be able to reply if it's going to use your story)
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

From what I have seen posted elsewhere, I gather some reasonable travel/accommodation expenses could be paid for the CH5 show?

How much do you owe? And whose fault is it? British families owe more than at any time in history - £1.4 trillion, or to put it another way, an average debt of £54,000 per household. More than two and a half million households now spend more on bills than they earn every month. Even if you take out mortgages, the average family owes more than £8,000 and many owe a great deal more. If they lose their jobs, like all of us, they're within a few days from financial disaster.

But whose fault is it? The credit card companies and banks who encourage us to spend? The pay day loan firms who've cashed in on the recession? Or is it down to the people who get themselves in debt. Is it down to a culture of spend, spend, spend?

Now, in the light of the hit series Can't Pay? We'll Take It Away!, this debate will explore our cash crisis in a vociferous, volatile live event. Those in dire debt, politicians, bankers, loan companies, celebrities – including those who've gone bankrupt themselves - finance experts, columnists and opinion formers will question who is responsible.

Why have that no-mark off the Apprentice on the programme? What does she know about being in debt!?

Completely ruining any credibility of the discussion. Everyone knows her views on not letting her children mix with those who have the wrong name.

What could she possibly bring other than being a bigoted antagonist with no sympathy at all to those who get into trouble with debt through no fault of their own, via redundancy or illness?

And having Jim Davidson on? Really? Someone gives a toss what that bigoted racist says about debt?
  • Exactly, was going to watch until the first person I saw was Katie Hopkins. Lost all credibility within the first 30 seconds.

I've just had a rant on the other thread about that woman, so many of my friends said that after the first channel 5 debate hosted by Matthew Wright, they turned off simply because of this woman. She adds nothing, & stifles what could have been an interesting debate.

These debates will not be taken seriously whilst she is allowed to shout over other contributors.

  • meanwhile over on facebook Martin says he turned it down because he didn't think "a bear pit debate aids debt policy.".
