I had a credit account with a company that I have just seen was defaulted. I remember, that although I didn't pay on time, I did pay them off in one big swoop and was told that they would close the account after that. I don't remember being told it was defaulted.

I've questioned this, with noddle where I got the report from, but they have come back saying it's all legit. I stupidly shredded all the paperwork with that company a while back as I assumed the case was closed and it was just a closed account.

Is this one default the reason my credit score is so low and I'm being refused everywhere?!
If all else fails, buy a new pair of shoes.

    Depends what else is on credit your file or possibly even lack of.

    How old is the default? what is the date on the file? can you tell from the payment history on your file how behind you were by the date of default?

    You could possibly contact the company in question to request details of the account.
