Yes - Yet ANOTHER Excel Parking Query - Help Please :)

Hello all,

Okay, I can probably guess what the answers are going to be to this query, however I just wanted to make sure.

I recently posted a thread on here stating that I had received a PCN from Excel Parking at Salford Quays.

I didnt even receive the notice on the windscreen and even the signage was POOR and this was confirmed by lots of people on here that have told me the same!

Anyway, every single one of you have said ignore - so I did.

The latest letter I have received from them is the Roxburghe UK Debt Collector letter stating I owe them £142.00
Again, I ignored.

However, I have received a voicemail from someone from that company this morning! Might I add it was a VERY stern voicemail indeed. It stated my name and instructed me to call them on 01932 332047 and quote a reference number. Interestingly, the number that called me was a mobile number that was 07837 667088 (I have decided to post that incase anyone else is dealing with these idiots and to recognise the number)

I am not going to call them back, but I am after a bit of advice. What if they call me again? Do I say they have the wrong number?

What I am more worried about is HOW have they managed to get my mobile telephone number?

I have been reading the threads on here and alot of people have commented on letters but not alot of people have stated phonecalls.

Many thanks!

There are loads of posts about phonecalls, if you look a bit harder. Continue to ignore. If they call you, put them on hold and go and brew up or something.

Just been reading a few. Are they allowed to do this? Where did they get my number from?!?
After reading alot of the responses here, why does a company like this allowed to exist?

I really want to answer the phone and tell these idiots where to shove it but I need the official "speil" if that makes sense lol xx
  • Hi
I got some very useful advice on how deal with the phone calls in a thread I started a few days ago - including the official spiel.

Ignore the letters but put a stop to any phonecalls/texts.

Next time they ring your wife should come to the phone and assertively tell Roxburghe aka Graham White that 'the alleged debt is denied'.

Say that the person they are trying to contact is the wrong person as she was not driving the car and has no lawful reason to tell them who was (continue to talk over them if they disagree). State that, as continuing to contact the keeper when they know she is the wrong person is harassment and a breach of the BPA Code of Practice and a breach of the OFT Debt collector Code of Practice, she will expect to hear no more about it whatsoever. Any further contact in any form, including from their alter ego Graham White, will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

'Good day' (or bog off if she prefers!). Phone down.

    Is this what you mean?
If so, did it work? Thanks for your help btw :)

Yes that's the bit, but they have not rung again for it to be tried. :)

Just makes me wonder how the DVLA can get away with giving out personal information to these people and how the hell did they get my mobile number?!?!?

The DVLA are permitted to give keeper information to anyone who shows reasonable cause by statute law.

DVLA believe (but we don't) that ALL private parking companies have such reasonable cause in the pursuit of their "business".

As for the mobile number this remains a mystery (well to me it is )

Is there any way I can find out how they have got my mobile number?

They probably have address trace systems that contain mobile phone numbers (where the numbers have been provided to marketing and other companies), or you gave the number to the DVLA.

Moral of the story: never give out your mobile number to companies, whether on paper forms or certainly internet forms. Once your name/address is matched to a mobile number, it is a commodity to be sold on to anyone who wants it. And always tick/clear the relevant boxes to disallow your details going to "other relevant third parties".
