Assignment Fees for Leaseholders

I have just bought a house where the lease stipulates a charge of not less than £10+VAT will be charged by the freeholder as a registration fee. My Solicitor duly sent this off to them, which they refused to accept.
The bill came through and is £150+VAT, slightly more than expected. Having spoken to the company collecting on behalf of the freeholder, all they will say is it is a resonable charge to register me as the owner and who my mortgage is through.
I don't believe it is a reasonable amount to charge for what will amount to 2 minutes in front of a computer screen. If I don't pay I will be in breach of my lease.
Has anybody got any suggestions on how I could get this exorbitant amount down to a more realistic amount.

if the lease stipulates 10 then that is reasonable. thats what you signed up to.
Surely? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Not less than £10+VAT
my argument is £150+VAT is not what I would consider a reasonable amount to charge0 -
That is what I had to pay or thereabouts. I think mine was £150 all in. no choice I'm afraid. They will charge it to your mortgage otherwise! There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0

How can they charge it against my mortgage????
My mortgage is nothing to do with them0 -
I just had a to fork out a total of £260 to my landlord / management company just to remortgage. Had no idea that these fees existed before I began the process - my solicitors found out.
My immediate thought was to let the process go through and then i'll take up the issue with the landlord afterwards, claiming that the fees were not (at least I couldn't imagine) in proportion with the work involved.
Anyway, looks like they were already expecting that and the letter of confirmation I got from them has a whole load of small print concerning "Administration Charges - Your Rights and Obligations". Basically, if you disagree with the fees you have the right to take them to a leashold valuation tribunal! I really can't be bothered with a tribunal, but that looks like they've cleverly left that as the only option!
Basically, they price their fees high enough to profiteer yet below an amount at which most people would be prepared to go through the remedy process made available to them. That's got to be legally questionable practice.0 -
they get round the LVT because they claim these are not administration charges but notices of assignment. However they always skirt around who the notice is for, if anybody.
I just feel they are abusing there position as the freeholder.0
