Public Liability for Charity

Can anyone help, please? I have a friend whose husband is a dialysis patient and they have become involved with the patients' group at his hospital. The group organises some fund raising events during the year - one I know of is a walk - and they need public liability insurance in case someone get injured.
They seem to be affiliated to a national group which appears to be rather disorganised and can't tell them if they have insurance or not!
Is there a company out there which is used to insuring charities and doesn't charge the earth for an annual policy?
Thanks
Erin
