Emachines 2230 desktop.

Hello all.

I have had this desktop for about six years now,and it has served me really well,in fact i have never ever had anything go wrong with it.

The rpoblem i now have is i need to do a Ram upgrade on it,it currently has 256mb Ram and as many know that is not really enough, could someone please advise me what type of Ram i need for this particular machine as i cant find that information anywhere.I am hoping to bump it up to 1gb of Ram as the desktop is sdtarting to go a wee bit slow now.

Thankyou all.

You could try running the crucial memory scanner.

According to this US site, it can support up to 2GB of PC2700 DDR333 in two slots (1GB module in each).

Try the Crucial Memory Adviser to check and find UK prices.

I'm actually quite happy for you.

When I worked in Currys, these were the most fault-prone computers we ever sold. I was always convinced that they were made with factory seconds hard drives and RAM or had some serious issue with the power supply.

    You'll want some 184-Pin PC2700 (333MHz) DIMM for it.

I've probably fixed 50 of these over the years with a blown cpu/motherboard/psu combo. Worst reliability record ever.

I guess i just got lucky with my Emachines,as i said i have had it for six years now and the only problem i have ever had is when it shut down due to me (rather stupidly installing another Antivirus on top of another already installed)

I have had a look around on the net and found the Ram i need 1gb...£24.99 does this seem to cheap and do places like Pc world do them,or Comet.

    Thankyou all.

Sounds reasonable, I'd avoid the big chain-stores though. They could be almost double the price for RAM.

This time of year is bad for ram prices, they go up before Xmas and don't drop much until March. £25 is about right, just make sure it's branded with a warranty.
