Insurance for a year whilst on WHV in Australia??

Hello,
Me and my partner are going to Australia on a Working Holiday Visa for up to a year. We are going to be working more than we will be travelling and are not sure whether to get travel insurance or perhaps take out some sort of home insurance once we have found somewhere to live for the year... this however will not cover medical expenses but I understand the UK has some sort of "agreement" with Australia regarding emergency medical treatment...
backpackers insurance is quite expensive and obviously we are trying to keep costs down... Does anyone have any advice for me?!

Have you looked at Columbus insurance? We used to have a partnership with them. They can cover you for the normal stuff, and also for any of those madcap things you do in Oz, like bungee jumping and what not.
Don't forget to get your TFN sorted as soon as you arrive either. Such a common mistake with travellers.
Good luck, and have a great time!!:oGetting married 23rd June 2012!!:o0
