Closest seaside trip to Birmingham?

An odd request...

I am looking after the nearest beach/coast/seasde trip i can make to take a 2 year old nephew from Birmingham. Probably by car. It would probably be a day trip too.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

I think your nearest is either Weston super mare or good old Blackpool

Southport will be closer than Blackpool though probably same distance as Weston. other options are north wales I guess, maybe shove some options in AA route planner, will also depend on where in Birmingham you are i.e. North or South

Not a lot between them, Rhyl may have it on actual distance, Weston on basis comparative ease of M5 route.

Many thanks for your responses. I think it will be Rhyl?

Rhyl is very nice in the summer. A little rundown, but in a victorian kind of way. ;D

There's the sea-life centre and the waterslide centre as well as the beach.

If you want to go a little further along the coast too Llandudno is also very nice for the beach, pier and nice little shops.

And of course, excellent for the ice-cream too (hmmm, visions of 2-year-old with sticky hands!) :-/
