Boiler brands, Gloworm? Others

Need a new boiler, had a suggestion from plumber for Gloworm 30C. House is 3 bed semi with 9 radiators. Quoted £1780 including Nest and 5 yr guarantee, extra £180 for 10 year guarantee.

Are gloworm any good? Seems worcester tend to be market leader?

I'm probably going to be moving house within 3-5 years so maybe not so important?

If you fit a Vaillant or a Bosch when it comes to selling the house your prospective buyer might like them more and they have a good reputation and you will have had the benefit of them until that time.

Look at the difference in price and whether you consider it worthwhile. Someone not going to not buy the house they like just because it's got the wrong boiler.

The house I'm in now has a worcester bosch, but that had nothing to do with whether or not I bought the house.

Engineers seem to like servicing it, unlike the Vokera at my last house which all the engineers complained about.

I'd say Viessmann, with a 10 year warranty available, but if you're moving soon I'd go for a budget option. Remember that most RGI's fit only a couple of brands, and that they get large incentives for selling those brands as 'accredited installers' (normally just a one day training course), so they cannot be relied upon for unbiased advice-better to ask an RGI who only does service and repairs.
And a new boiler is only as good as the installer.

I have been sent a quote for their boiler's extended warranty of 10 years which is a condition for the extended warranty. I guess the manufacturer's warranty is about 2 years.

The boiler is due its first annual service at a cost of £89 incl VAT.

The cost of the extended warranty is £168 incl VAT and can be paid by Direct Debit @£14 per month. It covers breakdown, parts and labour and annual service. No doubt (not mentioned in quote) the price would increase each year.

Is this a reasonable price to pay for the 10 years warranty and would I be able to switch to another provider if the price increased greatly? I should mention I hope to downsize if I can sometime this year.

If registered through Club Energy an installer can now offer 7 years warranty for Glow-worm boilers. The extended warranties for boilers, at the time of installation, are usually one-off charges, in this case, it seems £180 for 3 years. They aren't a yearly cost like boiler cover.

Boiler servicing - doesn't have to be from the manufacturer, or indeed, the installer. Most registered gas engineers can service your boiler - find them on the gas safe register.

    Recommendations:

Ideal, Main, Heatline - in that order, for customers on a budget.
Ideal, Baxi - in that order, for customers on a medium sized budget.
Vaillant, Worcester, Viessmann - in that order, for customers on a larger budget.

In my opinion, go for the better brands that come with better warranty.

If you get an installer who likes to work with Intergas then good for you.

Avoid Keston, Potterton, Biasi, Ferroli to name a few.

    My opinion only.
