Local land or campervan?

Hi,
I have £15000 to spend and I want to get something along the lines of long term leisure activities for my family, somewhere to go and chill out without spending too much.
I always wanted a plot of land to try my hand at self sustainability and an acre has come up a 5 mins walk away and I'm tempted to buy it, but haven't quite got my head around what to do with it. It has no water so can't keep livestock and turning it into a nature haven might take decades.
It's not as if my garden isn't a decent size and much of it isn't utilised but land comes up very rarely around here. Conservation area so not a very good property investment?
The alternative ideas would be to try for a bit of land in a nice touristy area of natural beauty and camp but that's as rare as hens teeth for the right money.
Or perhaps buy a campervan, but then one day it is going to turn to dust...
Any opinions. or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
