Amex credit card application (docs needed)

Hopefully someone can help me...
I have just had a response from an Amex CC application from a few days ago and they have asked for a "certified" copy of my passport or DL as well as an original utility bill, I've got my passport page printed off, anyone know what they mean by certified?
Also, I'm paperless billing for almost everything too so I've printed off my SSE latest statement from the internet, does this count as an original?
Thanks in advance.

certified, as far as I am aware means signed by someone who Amex trust (solicitor, doctor, some other upstanding member of society in amexs book) that can say that the photo is who you say it is.
Phone them and ask who they deem to be worthy (or did they not send you a list like they do for passports)
Saves sending the actual document to them.0 -
Ah, yes there is a list of who can certify...Didn't read the small print, DOH!
Thanks for the quick comment though. :-)0 -
Someting else I could ask while I'm here is, they have said I can use the pre-paid envelope provided but this has come via email, if I just write letter for letter what they have given as the freepost address on my own envelope will that be suitable and get there without a stamp?0

If it's a freepost address and not say a prepaid envelope it should be fine

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

OK thanks, could I get opinions on whether this is likely to be a successful application? My thinking is that this will just be a formality and they wouldn't bother asking for these documents if they were just going to reject my application...0

Nothing is certain until you get the plastic in your hand. However, I gave it up as the likelihood of AmEx being accepted is marginal to slim - they are a very distant third to Visa and MC.0

I have a Visa and a Mastercard too, it's the BA card I've applied for so hoping to build up the airmiles/avios.0

Loads of people have Amex cards. It's only marginal to slim if you aren't what they're looking for - and I assume the OP must be (otherwise why would they want the documents?) giving them a pretty good chance.0 -
The story continues, I've now had a separate email from them saying they are reviewing the decision and will respond within 10 working days, same reference number to quote as previous email should I wish to call them but this time no mention of requiring any documents from me.0

OK, so I just thought I'd give an update here and ask for opinions...
I got another email from Amex asking me to contact them, so I called the number the put in the email and was told that the application has been successful but I just need to send in the verified passport and utility bill and the card will be issued etc.
I explained that I work away and will be able to do this next week once I'm home etc. All good!
My question, I forgot to ask this on the phone...Will I still qualify for the introductory deal with the bonus BA airmiles (Avios) which expired September 30th, the day after I applied for the card...?0
