We're looking to take our tent away for a week during whitsun and quite fancy staying a couple of nights in devon (maybe Torquay) and then a couple of nights at Brean sands on the way back to South Wales.
Can anyone please recommend any nice campsites around devon. Nice toilet & shower facilities are essential, as is being walking distance from a pub (or 10). No childrens facilities are necessary as we are two adults travelling alone.
Also open for suggestions for other nice campsites up to around 2-3 hours from South Wales.
Many thanks.

The Best of British network includes only parks graded 'Excellent' by the Tourist Board. We've used their sites a few times and can recommend the toilet & shower facilities at all of them. Several of their sites have won "Loo of the year" awards!
One in particular (possibly within 2-3 hours for you) is Lincoln Park Farm near Oxford. I've spent many an hour hiding from the children in the high ceiling, chandeliered shower block listening to the piped music. You can also hire one of their two swimming pools by the hour for completely private use. They come with steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and piped music.
Possibly one to visit for just a weekend - there's only so much of that ever endearing piped music you can take in one go. :rolleyes:0 -
Many thanks for your help it's greatly appreciated. Gonna check out those sites now.0

Does it have to be Devon? THIS one in Dorset is lovely. It has it's own (very pebbly) beach.kirstyreanne wrote:as is being walking distance from a pub (or 10).kirstyreanne wrote:Nice toilet & shower facilities are essential
You can still use them if you want electric hook up, you just have to walk into the next field. I saw the toilet/ shower blocks being cleaned every day (inc. Sunday and Bank holiday Monday) and I never saw one spider or daddy long legs. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
There is a nice place in Goodrington near Paignton called Beverley Park that takes tents and caravans. It is up a hill but not too far to walk down to the nearest pub.
Grange Court is right in Goodrington and is a lovely place but does not take tents. My choice for touring vans.
There is a cracking static van site in Goodrington at Three Beaches on the Dartmouth Road called Waterside Holiday Park. We have stayed there loads of times. It has a good club and pub and on-site takeaway as well as food served in the club and pub.
If you go to Paignton Holiday Park there is a pub right next door but it is a good 2 miles walk into the resort - not great at night as it is on the Totnes road.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Don't know about Devon but in S. Wales there are some great campsites around Saundersfoot. It's a beautiful place to stay and not mega expensive like many coastal areas.0

I had the most fantastic holiday last year in Cornwall! Pentewan Sands has it's own private beach and we paid the extra for a premium pitch which literally fronts onto the beach!
There is a pub within walking distance - literally just outside the campsite (very busy though), and the shower/toilet/washing up facilities are excellent (use the new block though if you can). There is also a 'club house' on site but to be honest we steered clear of that!
There is a swimming pool and a mini market which sells the most wonderful Cornish Pasties.
There are plenty of things to do in the area (it is a few miles from St Austell) and they also have another site at Heligan Woods and you can split the holiday between the two.
As you can probably tell I absolutely loved it - I would love to go back there but it took us 16 hours to get there from Lowestoft in a 30 year old campervan on a bank holiday weekend with traffic chaos all around us.
Having said that we are taking the van to Scotland in the summer but we've got three weeks to get there and back so we should just about make it!
Any campsite recommendations in Scotland would be great?0 -
Wow, you lot are great!
We've just got to decide where we fancy going now!0 -
As a first timer to Camping, can anyone recommend a good first tent to buy - suitable for a family of four. We have friends with a Trailer Tent that have asked us to join them, but I don't know where to start in terms of tent. Have had a quick look at Argos - does anyone know how they compare?
Thanks
