    It depends how long you are there for , what sort of holiday you enjoy , whether you

    would hire a car ?

    Have a look at this for Shannon region : )

    Then I would suggest Cork City ... plenty going on and plenty to see ... a young vibrant community

    I used to live in limerick, which is the only thing near to shannon.

    in shannon - there is::
    Airport !!!!

    and thats it!

    from limerick, there is the cliffs of moher,and a few other things (nice & outdoor), which i cant remember.
    the best place in the centre is the clarion, which is the most reasonable and good quality.
    the airport has easy bus access to limerick for about 7 euros.

    cant think of much else at the moment,
    reply with specific questions and ill answer gladly!!

    hope this helps

    I just asked same Q on the flights thread !

    I have the choice of Shannon,Dublin,Paris ( orly) or Amsterdam for an anniversary trip end of July

    We are both 28 and not into the pubbing / clubbing scene,like a nice meal and wine though :D
  • cork is Ireland's 2nd biggest city, so plenty of shops/restaurants etc. nearish to some historic places too - Blarney Stone and Rock of Cashel, and some nice coastal towns. If you hire a car then you are near scenic countryside in Cork/Kerry.

    If you're in Shannon, head towards Bunratty, down towards Limerick. There's the Bunratty folk park and castle and Bunratty hosts Medieval Banquets that are quite good. I've been to one before a few years ago, bit of song, music and acting while dining without cutlery (except for the vegetarians) quite an enjoyable evening.
