Just be happy you have your own home. No matter how hard I work I am still stuck in private rentals as I struggle getting a deposit together. However, I am in a better position than people on the streets during these very cold nights. The stamp duty paid goes towards schools and hospitals to help society, unlike my rent…

I guess FBaby missed their opportunity to be part of the monarchy. I mean we are all born equal after all!

The banning of letting agent fees and ending of section 21. As a T I understand why there is a section 21, but it hurts the majority is great tenants. However, those eviction notices have been used as a threat against Ts. For example I see one post on another forum. about a broken sink and one poster pipes up with serving…

I think you're crazy for wanting to move back at the sacrifice of your husband's career so you can carry on surrounded by children/babies for most of your time with unskilled work. I don't understand how you have no help in England? Did you not go to mother and baby groups to forge friendships with other parents? I am now…

I came to the same conclusion (and I agree with you about the two who were not well research). I did find it worrying that one MP thought the deposit was to be used to bring the house up to standard pre-tenancy too without any correction. However, I did feel that as a private tenant concerns raised on this forum were…

If you use a highstreet job agency I doubt you would pay a holding fee for the job, admin fees for the paperwork + arranging interviews, another fee for organising your references nor some other fee where you are asked to contribute towards office space, lighting, heating... etc. Letting agents became too greedy and have…

I think it would be worth acknowledging during the debate the number of MPs who are landlords as I fear this would add a conflict of self interest for improving the rental market for millions of people who are trapped in private renting. I am one example of someone who is trapped in the private rental market due to family…

Home stability is important through secondary education....you won't get that with private renting.

I was going to suggest Chalkwell as it is a bit of a faff to get to Leigh station (I grew up in Leigh-on-sea).

....also bare in mind that there are landlord who use tenants for the short term before selling up that cost the tenant dearly in agency fees + moving costs. Works both ways.

I was in the same position as you earlier this year when my LL wanted to sell. I find it is best to agree viewings for 2 hours once a week. If a buyer is interested then they will make time and an estate agent is more likely to block book because their time is money, plus you also won't be wasting time if there are no…

Think of it as a sign to walk away. Yesterday a let was agreed on the property I am renting (for this last month). Sadly for the new Ts I don't think the landlord has been fully open with them about the immediate building work (3 story flats immediately at the end of the garden) which will cause disruption.

Why not just set it aside and pay when the time comes from one account?

The rental I am in has the cheapest magnolia carpets with no underlay and cleaning them just makes it worse and concerned that I will damage the floorboards. LL is my next property has a bit more common sense....grey carpets!

When was the property last redecorated?

Ask them in good faith to trust that you will be great tenants and that there is no need for reference fees and you will pay your rent each month :D I really do wonder how many LA will go out of business once outlawing of fees comes in .

I have also no window in the bathroom of my rental property and the extractor fan is as useful as a chocolate tea pot. Nightmare to ventilate, so I have been using a dehumidifier. We were instructed by the letting agent to keep the fan on for a certain amount of minutes.... makes jack s difference. Do you know if your…

In the future when moving long distance it is always better to book a couple of days off work and do viewings over two days. There is always a risk that properties will go in the mean time, but also an opportunity that new ones will be availble for that time. Google street view is ok, but it isn't like getting a feel for…

I am moving from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bed flat and it's been about 30 boxes so far, plus numerous bags plus sofas + furniture. I am moving tomorrow and to the otherside of the country so I only have one chance to get it done. I'd love to have a professional packer, but that's a luxury I canoe afford right now.

I am in my MSc year where I have struggled to live on 3k (after payibg the fees!). I will be going into a paid PhD next month which is low wage, but is what I want to do in life. Hopefully I can earn a larger wage after. Had no time for other jobs as I have to commute 2 hours each way for uni (could not afford to move!). I…
