Last time that particular bubble popped we got our feet wet over here too, lets hope it isn't more of the same. Probably have different effect if burst what with the bailouts; and not effect here so much unless some of the CDS toxic waste is still circulating; but if it is a bubble of worthless stocks and it carrys on…

Haven't been really reading this forum for the past few days, so apologies if this has been discussed here, or elsewhere, but what do you make of the news that for at least the past month, 40% of all stock on the NYSE has been comprised of 4 companies - all of which which had to have massive bailouts (Fannie Mae, Freddy…

This helps put things into perspective a bit. http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB125026270774732295-lMyQjAxMDI5NTEwNDIxNjQyWj.html Regulators seized Colonial Bank on Friday after reaching a deal to sell its branches, deposits and most of its assets to rival BB&T Corp. in the sixth-largest bank failure in U.S. history.…

Colonial Bancgroup (mentioned in the OP link) is already close to failing and likely to be taken over by BB&T Corp. http://money.cnn.com/2009/08/14/news/companies/colonial/index.htm?postversion=2009081406 http://www.marketwatch.com/story/colonial-may-become-biggest-bank-failure-of-2009-2009-08-14

Why does nothing banks are found out to be doing surprise me any more? And I was pretty cynical before the meltdown about bankers. If this is even vaguely accurate then millions of policies are not worth the paper they are written on, and they have already spent most of the bailout money they have got so far paying off…

The documents that Barclays blocked the Guardian from printing are on WIkileaks if anyone is interested. Legal no doubt, but will not .matter in the current climate how legal it is, with the demand for transparency and fair accounting, How can it be seen other than an an unfair and unethical drain on the governments pocket…

Futher to my previous post, the person who wrote the blog I linked to has finally got some clear answers to his questions from the Bank of England on how the policy works. Here It is not quite as transparent as he and I would prefer, but at least we now have an idea about how it will work in practice. Edit: Here is an…

There is a pretty good (if rather long winded) explanation about QE here While some of his analysis about it may be open to interpretation, the amount of details missing from the government explanation of the policy are quite eye opening for such a radical policy. From the article* The BoE has no obligation to report all…

Hard to explain why I deleted, just got fed up with the whole thing really and wanted to read this thread without being reminded of what happened. Also getting involved WAS making the thread go off topic, and I want to avoid that, as even trying to help is still continuing the argument despite my intentions. I would rather…

This might help https://checkout.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=99880 If you clicked the button that lets you cancel an order in the first 15 minutes after making the order and it didn't work you might have to do it manually - the "contact the seller" link on the reciept on google checkout includes the item list,…
