End of another year...May the next be better than the last!

As another year draws to a close, I'd just like to wish everybody a happy, sucessful and prosperous 2008.
Life is something of a rollercoaster, and should have a fairly equal share of ups and downs. Unfortunately, the past 3 years of my life seem to have had more than their fair share of downs, and nowhere near enough ups
This past year started off well, took a severe nosedive - hit rock bottom, and then after a great deal of soul searching and reparation, slowly started to climb back up
Most people have problems in their lives, some more so than others, but the most important lesson I have ever learnt is that there is always somebody far worse off than myself. I have my health, happiness, and a very supportive family.
Having only been a member here for a short period of time, I haven't really gotten to know anybody very well, but having read through most of the threads (especially the diaries) I can see that I'm most certainly not the only one who has had a rather rough ride of late. I hope that everybody will join me in putting 2007 behind them and entering into 2008 with fresh hope, fresh dedication and, hopefully, a light at the end of the tunnel.
2007 has been a hell of a year, roll on 2008.

Hi Marc
Thanks for the good wishes, and I'm sorry that 2007 hasn't been so good for you. We're quite glad to see the back of 2007 here in the house of Piglet, too!!
Anyway, no dwelling on the bad stuff. Like you, I'm going to throw all my energy into making 2008 a positive year - I hope its a good one for all MSE-ers as well...particularly all the DFWs!

Def agree with you over 2007. its had some negatives inc my ex partners parents getting in contact and expecting to walk into my daughters live after 5 yrs, I just say thank god I have a good solicitor.
One way and another Ive hit rock bottom, but my motto is once you hit rock bottom, theres only 1 way and thats up!
Had some positives ,,,,,,,, 1 really, I passed my first set of Open Uni courses, now have a certificate in business studies and a certificate in Law.
I always try and start the New Year positive, usually fall on a clanger pretty soon, but as tge saying goes new year, new start and thats def what I want.
I intend to take a day at a time, Ive set some goals for 2008, if I dont achive them I wont be a failure, just merely set the goal posts to far away.
Good luck with 2008 xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
hear, hear, Marc. Looking forward to 2008!

Yep, I want to make 2008 a *really* good one. I'm not so unfit as I usually am at this time of year, so that's a good start for me. And 2007 was the year I really got into mse, so it wasn't *all* bad.

Yes, 2007 has had 1 huge up because I became debt free in May and a huge down. I chose redundancy because of how I was being treated at work, although that kind of turned into an up when I put in a grievance 2 days before I left.........

2007 took a hell of a lot out of me mentally and I'm only just starting to get myself back on my feet.
I see 2008 as a year to re-start my life work wise, a positive one in that I've joined the 'live on £4,000 for a year challenge' (albeit with only £3,800!) to keep me on the straight and narrow, and using MSE to help me best utilise my savings to get the best returns.
2008 WILL be better than 2007.

Good wishes to all of you for 2008
Thanks to this site my life has inmproved in 2007.
Mainly because I have been dealing with christmas since January and just got a bank statement and I have only used half my overdraft. (this is very good for me at this time of year) I just have to make sure I go easy in the sales when I get paid next week.
Personally I have had a good year. I went to Australia in Dec 2006 and saw all my relies. I had been saving for 5 years for that.
I also climbed Snowdon . I was able to do this by keeping (getting) fit all year from cycling.
I have started back into my get fit campaign Boxing day and have been for a couple of long rides.
This year I will attempt to overpay on my transferred to LOB balance credit cards and not spend on the one I have left.
I did put about £150 on it in the run up to christmas.
I would pay it all off on payday but the OH is now out of work and no new jobs looming for him. He is 57 and it does get harder to find somthing at that age. He has a couple of appointments with temp agencis this week so wish him luck.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

No idea what 2008 has in store for me, but I am confident that I can cope with it much better now I know where my money is going each month, instead of hiding bank statements and keeping my fingers crossed that my bills would somehow magically get paid each month!
All the best to everyone here for the new year x0
