Hi, I'm new to this forum but not the site.
Briefly, to save people wasting their time, I have taken the important steps towards getting my budget fixed: Put a SORN on the car - no car costs, dropped every non-essential outgoing, switched mobile contract, got half-price modem (my lifeline to here and eBay) Made an extra £300 this month (eBay) and cut back by a further £200. Been to the sites, done the CCCS calculator, up to date with utilities and rent.
Problem: Had a heart attack two years ago - terrible sick record; meant to avoid stress. Went into hospital Jan 08 with massive blood loss, while there I was short-paid (complicated) Halifax hit me with £550 charges in 6 weeks. Haven't made CC payments (5) or loan repayment since March. All over limit and accruing debt at £50/mth each. Tried for consolidation loan with new bank account - declined. Went online and was lied to and passed to Welcome (to my nightmare) Finance - no way thank you. Employer now trying to get me out because of sickness. Need to stop the increase in card debt then I can make payments (monthly net income £1475 if payroll get it right, which they have managed twice in the last 18 mths; rent/bills <£750). Enough left to resume payments but not to pay amount due now. Cannot get 0% bal CC or High Street credit, not long enough with new bank for overdraft (and has taken 3 months to get salary switched to it - still praying it goes in this month). Does anyone have any ideas where I can borrow sufficient to stop the leak (already borrowed from my son but not quite enough to stem the flow). I'm saving pennies and selling treasured possessions to tread water.
Got a case against unWelcome Finance with FOS - not holding my breath; can't get refund from Halifax despite letters. Capital One keep sending 6 yrs statements with 4 yrs missing (3 times); could claim from them and Citibank if I divert funds to pay the court fees. Do I pay out evrything I have and sell the shirt off my back, only to lose my job and have CAB sort it for me when I have no income (at 44) or can someone tell me they have successfully negotiated to freeze CC debts on their own. I want to try - I am a professional debt negotiator but from the other side, and not for a financial institution (unless you count the Treasury as one) Trust me, I feel the same way as my 'clients' (maybe my sick record is an excuse ...hmmm). Once my debts are manageable I'm out anyway - I know the misery debt causes, my head is spinning with this. I worked four long years to rebuild a credit rating during and after after my unWelcome experience and it's gone through the floor in three months. I'm not whingeing at a relatively minor debt crisis, it is snowballing. Sorry if this is long-winded.:o

All i can say is how sorry i am that you are in this situation. When it happens it does so very quickly.
I would certainly get in touch with the debt charities, simply because( whilst you are a capable person!) i feel you need someone to take some of the stress off of you.
I can empathise with the way you are feeling and have been very practical thus far in your approach. so as Clapton suggests put up your SOA, and see if another eye can help. You would be surprised, and we certainly wouldn't see it as a waste of time.
On the other side of things, i hope your GP is helping you as well. Some things are more important than money.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

speak to your cc providers yourself tell them you are really struggling to make payments I did and one of mine froze interest and i am only paying £30 a month which comes straight off the balance i could now pay more but i dont cos if i did then they would start charging interest.
Also go to your local jobcentre and ask for a crisis loan they may give you one there is no interest to pay and you can pay them back as and when you can (you will have to tell them that you can pay them back at whatever they say a week but I don't and they dont hassel you for the money!!)
Also check entitledto.co.uk you may be eleigable for some benefits.
do you have an extra room you could sublet to someone to bring in some extra cash?
Definatley put up your soa we may find other areas to save money.

And i hope you put it all in their letter
Haven't made CC payments (5) or loan repayment since March. All over limit and accruing debt at £50/mth each.Write and get the interest frozen, put in you SOA, to them and explain sick situation, any insurances you can call on via mortage? Or card protection?
Tried for consolidation loan with new bank account - declined. Went online and was lied to and passed to Welcome (to my nightmare) Finance - no way thank you.
Employer now trying to get me out because of sickness. I am sure that is illegal, have a look at employment law on this, and they are not allowed to make you further ill, with stress or to pressure you
Need to stop the increase in card debt then I can make payments (monthly net income £1475 if payroll get it right, which they have managed twice in the last 18 mths; rent/bills <£750). Enough left to resume payments but not to pay amount due now. Negotiate as above, write and keep stating

I'm saving pennies and selling treasured possessions to tread water. stop selling treasured stuff, go to debt advice first, they rely on us wanting perfect cresit histories, but if that is shot then they can have nothing or a token payment
Got a case against unWelcome Finance with FOS - not holding my breath; You never know, i reckon they are overwhelmed at all of the financially savvy folk about at moment
can't get refund from Halifax despite letters. Capital One keep sending 6 yrs statements with 4 yrs missing (3 times); could claim from them and Citibank if I divert funds to pay the court fees.Time limits on all of these, report them if they have not cooperated, they are timewasting in order to confuse
Do I pay out evrything I have and sell the shirt off my back, only to lose my job and have CAB sort it for me when I have no income (at 44) or can someone tell me they have successfully negotiated to freeze CC debts on their own. No you don't , hey same age as me..I havent done this but plenty on here have.ook at the DMP thread, lots of peeps on there who are great at this
