Beauty Therapy training - shall I do it????

Options
Hi - I have been out of work for 4 years bringing up my daughter. However, the rising cost of living has meant that I now desperately need to get back to work. Previously I had a high powered job in an international company working in excess of 70 hours per week. (Managing teams of people/customer service and marketing) I don't want to do that sort of thing now - I want to pick and choose my hours around the child care that I have available and be able to enjoy my daughter growing up. I am seriously considering mobile beauty therapy as a possible option. It would cost about £1100 for me to train privately - I don't have the luxury of time to go to the local college and qualify over a 1 or 2 year period. I have no beauty experience. I was just hoping that maybe someone would have advise on running a successful mobile business - potential pitfalls, the treatments I should learn and anything else I need to be aware of. Alternatively if anyone has other ideas let me know - all advise grateful received. (I have already discounted cake making and child care.) Apologies if this is in the wrong place - this is my first post! Many thanks

  • ok first of all tell us some more about yourself
Are you on benefits at the moment in which case you can probably get the course for free and when you have finished the couse the jobcentre will help you to set up your new business. Plus you may get help with child care.
Put up your SOA (statement of affairs) let us see where we can save you money.
Even to train privately would take time to do so it may be worth it to train at a college

Im a beauty therapist and i would say it depends on your area. Im from cornwall and its a big no no - no1 is interested. If you are in a busy area then I wish you all the best of luck but its a hard game x

  • I've been in the Beauty Industry for 12 years and it's not easy.I have 2 children and yes to work around them is great.I get to go to plays, sport's day's and take and fetch them from school.I work from home.I think there is too much competion in this industry so it's essential to check out your competion for your area.If you do any private courses waxing is always very popular.I did a combined course of hair and beauty and sometimes wish I'd gone down the hairdressing route as mostly everyone has their hair done but not everyone has beauty treatments as I think it's classed as a real luxury.I think you have to spealise in something (which is now what I'm looking to do) to stand out from the crowd. If you want any more info ask away.
