Can anyone recommend a mac program to do a website

Options
I need to re-do my web sites
I use a mac (OS X) and the sites were originally done in pagemill which is now rather elderly and only works on OS 9
I got a copy of Dreamweaver MX, but it's beyond me.

Please can anyone recommend a simple mac program that I could use? I don't want to do anything fancy, just lots of pages with lots of links between them.
Any advice will be gratefully accepted.

If you have a Mac, you should have iWeb on it. It's very easy to use and makes very pretty websites, though they tend to be a bit graphics-intensive.

Google have a basic web-page creation and hosting tool called Google Page Creator that might do if you wanted something a lot simpler.

Depending on what you want to do, a blog on WordPress or Blogger might suit too.

SkyBlueCanvas - a very cool, free content management system that lets you create and edit web pages from the web. No need to install software on your local Mac/PC, just upload the software to the server where it runs as PHP scripts. I installed it this morning as an experiment and am very impressed.

  • I prefer code from scratch, make a template and then just add the relevant data in the gaps. It's far more versatile and very simple once you get to grips with it. Therefore I would recommend TextEdit or TacoHTML :D

With Dreamweaver you have one of the best programs around. I would be tempted to get a book to guide you through it - something like this

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dreamweaver-CS3-Dummies-Computers/dp/0470114908/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1214650453&sr=1-2

Programs like this are daunting as they can do so much, but you only need to get to grips with the bits you need. Good luck.

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned nvu.
    See: http://nvudev.com/index.php

Freeware and open source, available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. I like it and use it to update my websites.
Can view pages in HTML, Browser preview or design view, just like Dreamweaver.

Only area it's a bit funny is that it won't preview Flash animation, or even let you insert them - so if you're using Flash, you might need to copy the html code for that from someone elses website and paste it in manually.

That said, if you have a "copy" ;) of Dreamweaver MX, that's pretty good. I think that's one of the last ones before Adobe bought it and, in my opinion, made it worse. What was a clean easy-to-use bit of software is now cluttered, slow and awkward.
