Private dental costs..can anyone help?

I'm a NHS patient and today I went for my check up and asked about my front tooth. It's discoloured and has been patched up too many times and it's really noticeable.
The dentist told me as there is nothing physically wrong with my tooth, NHS won't cover it. Which I knew anyway. He said I could have a crown done privately and it would cost around £400. (Thankfully my dad has offered to pay)
Is this an average price or can you shop around? I am happy with my dentist so I would be inclined to let him do it. But do different dentists charge different prices?
Can anyone advise me?
Thanks alot.

depends what the crown is made of as to how much it would be. seems a usual kind of price to me; if that helps lol0

Sounds reasonable to me. But depends what type of crown.
For that sort of money it really should be a very nice one that you will hardly be able to tell from a real tooth. (I say 'hardly' because for a single crown, however good the shade match, in certain light conditions, and close up in a mirror you'll always be able to spot the difference. But it shouldn't be obvious, or stand out on photographs.)How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
seems a reasonable price i'm afraid.
you can shop around at different dentists for private treatmetn in theory- unfortunately in practice this will probably annoy your current dentist.
You also tend to pay for what you get. ask about the different standard of lab work you can get. the price should vary with this.:money: Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to everyone who has helped.0
