Are Full Physical Health Check ups worth it?

I don't have health insurance but can afford to have a full health check up. A friend had one recently which cost her £600 through a well known private health insurance complany. All the results were available straightaway. Blood tests, mammogram, internal, liver, heart and lung. As I'm getting to that age 50 when a lot of people get illnesses I thought it would be a good idea to have this check up. Does anyone agree?
Also are there any cheaper ones available does anyone know?

A relative had one of these recently but it didn't tell her anything she didn't know. Seems a lot of money for not much return.0

Thanks. Is she aged around the 50 mark? Am just wondering if your relative is the same age as me and if so whether this is the age when people begin to get anxious about their health. My friend had the check up because several of her friends had come down with bad illnesses when on the face of it they seemed perfectly healthy.0
