Just thought I'd share this with everyone who has NTL (dont know if about other cable operators) in their area.
NTL (in Teesside) are doing Sky Sports free for a year when you subscribe to them and when my dad was getting his sky installed (my recommend a friend) the sky installation bloke told him that if you ring up sky and say your leaving to go to NTL because of their offer, Sky will match it.
Therefore I decided to give it go.
After giving over my personnal details to the first person on the phone, i got passed over to the "cancallation department", where I told him that i was going to leave because of NTL's offer.
He proceed to give my the spiele about the catches of the offer (and there are some) and how rubbish they are (which is true!). I said i understand all of that but that its alot cheaper so i still wanted to move. He asked me was the price the only reason I was moving and I replied yes.
He then said "what if i can keep you on the same package your on now but give you 20% discount for a YEAR, would i keep with sky??".
As you can image I snapped his hands off! 20% off £36/month = £7.20/month = £86.40/year. Alot more than I would get with 3 months half price (£54).
Hope this helps some people

i know you have to phone every 3 months, but i get the full package for £21 by ringing up and saying i want to cancel 4 times a year, also got offered sky+ for £65 without multiroom!Trophies are like Buses, you wait 26 years.
Then 3 come along at once!!!!0 -
Thanks for this. Just got my 20% discount so i'm now well chuffed.0

how come you have to ring up every 3 months thegoon??? I've got my 20% discount for the year.
Glad its helped someone Carlito0 -
because i get it half price when i phone them to cancel whic equates to full package £21 per month, instead of £35.60 per month with 20% off, so for the sake of a phone call 4 times a year im saving £252 a year instead off £100.80.Trophies are like Buses, you wait 26 years.

I'd like to try this but I am worried that I would just get put through for cancellation as they may cotton on I'm up to something and I don't want to go on NTL. My mate tried this and they said well sorry no deal and ended up having to eat humble pie and stayed with sky with no cheap deal.

Even if they put you through for cancellation, they may not go through with it without trying to keep you, but if however they do cancel you with out offering you, they take that call as 30 day notice, so you can always call back and say you've changed your mind.
I called this morning with serious intentions of cancelling because I wanted to go for the 3 for £30 offer from NTL, and they also offered me the 20% off. Also it seems many are trying to cancel, when I called they told me cancellations line was busy, and gave me the direct number to call back.0 -
No Luck here

Tried it last night and they said we'd already had 'All 3 stages' this year. I take it that's the reduced price we've had 3 times. The man wouldn't budge.
So we ended up by cancelling, but have the 30 days to change our minds
Still worth a try.

Is this discount for Cable or Sky users? The OP isn't very clear

It is that what you do, good or bad,
