Advice desperately needed

Can anyone help I am desperately trying to help a friend. He is a 45 yr old originally from America he don't really have any idea with money and is trying to bury his head in the sand.
He originally came to England with his English wife and bought a house in joint names which was reposessed when she left him. He then remarried and became in debt with utility bills when she left him. He has since been living in rented accomodation alone. He works full time and gets paid cash for which he pays income tax which is sorted by his employer. He won't have a bank account because of all of the previous debt. But now he is been evicted as he has got behind on the rent and the letting agent is insisting he has a bank account. He is not bothered about the eviction but would like to know how to sort the whole debt problem to stop this happening again and open a bank account. We have no idea where to start with this can anyone help.

    Hi

If nothing else works, one of these should let him open a basic account - no credit check, no overdraft etc. There are others but these are known to us. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=474254

With reference to his debt problems, he would be well advised to come on here in person and put up his statement of affairs so folk can help him get his income and expenditure to match.

if he does not have internet access at home, he can sign up with his local public library and get free internet access, althougy the deal may vary. My local council allow me two hours per day but are only open two evenings and Saturday, oustide my working hours.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Thanks for that I can tell him about the basic bank account thing. There is no way he would come on the net like I say his head is in the sand we are just tryin to help him with it all.
