Working as a contractor through an umbrella company

Hi Everyone,

I've been BR for a week now after finally taking all the advice available to me and reading the views posted on this forum.

I'd like to thank you all for being so open with your views and advice it has helped a great deal reading how other people have coped.

I'm currently out of work though shortly will have a telephone interview for a job which could start Monday if I'm successful. Though I have a query which I'm hoping you maybe able to help me with.

The job is through an agency and the work on a contract basis for 6 months on a day rate. I'm really just wondering if I can go in for these kind of roles and use an Umbrella Company to collect the funds, deduct the required tax/NI etc... I know I cannot operate a Ltd co myself and in all honesty wouldn't wish to... But as I'll be technically employed by the Umbrella Co through-out the duration of the contract is it allowed??

I called the OR office for advice but they just gave me the number of the Insolvency agency who didn't really give me an answer one way or the other.

Many thanks,

NonstickRanger
