Random questions

I have a few general randon questions to ask.
Im asking about them all in one before i forget.

Q1. on my credit file(equifax) my wife is listed as having a link to me but although it shows her with her maiden name as well as her now married name, there is another entry where her maiden name is spelt incorrectly so therefore i have 3 links instead of 2....what can i do.

Q2. on the whatsthecost website it askes for your monthly payment as a % of the balance....how do i work out my monthly payment as a %

Q3. which is worse remortgage to include debts or secured loan.

Q4. if i ask CC people for a lower rate deal on my current balance will they see this as a payment plan of some sort and blot my credit file or do they just see it as a customer shopping for a better deal.
The reason i ask this question is that i emailed CAP1 about this and simply asked for a lower rate deal and they said 'call us to arrange a payment plan'

Thanks guys im sure you will know all the answers.

Q2. on the whatsthecost website it askes for your monthly payment as a % of the balance....how do i work out my monthly payment as a % this is where you tell it if your minimum payment on a credit card is x% of your debt, so if it is 3% just put 3 in the box, if your debt has a set payment then put this in the other box

Q3. which is worse remortgage to include debts or secured loan. one of the golden rules is that you shouldn't turn unsecured debt into secured debt if you can halp it but without more info it is hard to know what options you have

Q4. if i ask CC people for a lower rate deal on my current balance will they see this as a payment plan of some sort and blot my credit file or do they just see it as a customer shopping for a better deal. - should just be seen as a customer asking for a better deal, but then one bank sees requests for no sales calls as a complaint so there is no telling what they think.
The reason i ask this question is that i emailed CAP1 about this and simply asked for a lower rate deal and they said 'call us to arrange a payment plan' Might be worth exploring with them, but will probably hammer your credit rating if you go down this route, beware of banks bearing gifts. I am not sure what the deal is where one creditor unilaterally offers you a repayment plan - hopefully someone who does will be along in a sec.

Thanks guys im sure you will know all the answers.

    Ref Q4.

When i emailed CAP1 all i said was that basicly i want a better deal as ive been on the standard rate for quite some time.
Ive not missed any payments with them or anything like that.

    This is what they said.
Thank you for asking if the interest rates can be reduced for a short period on your account and that you are looking for a payment plan on your account. We currently don't drop rates on request, which means that I can't review the rates on your account. However, we do review customer's rates on a monthly basis. If your rates are reviewed and we can offer you a lower rate we'll write out and let you know. From experience, we've found that speaking to our customers is the most effective way of helping them. Because of this, we'd like to speak to you by phone as soon as possible. We've an experienced team of payment specialists, who have helped customers in similar situations and they may be able to help you find a payment solution. I'm afraid that until we've spoken with you and agreed a payment solution, interest and default sums for late payment and being overlimit may continue being added. So that we can help you and end any worry.

Now im not sure if they have 'ears' out there watching me but all i wanted was a better deal i gave no hint of being in trouble.....jeeez

Sounds to me like it's just a standard reply that's been dragged out whether it actually answers your question or not, but I'm no expert.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Sounds like they shunted you straight into a computer generated letter, I wouldn't worry about it, they probably assume you are struggling rather than that you might just be looking for a better deal from them because you are more discerning

(tbf credit companies never seem to think their clients have half a brain, my bank called me twice in the last couple of weeks, once was a premier banking service and the other was a 'pre-collections' department for proplr that were struggling; I had reduced my ludicrously high credit limit that I didn't need and they had forced on me and they called to tell me that they had reduced my limit and to try to help me with my repayments - I have been overpaying all year - lol).

Cheers honey, not anything earth shattering I am afraid, just been really strict with myself for the last 6 months, I found the snowball calculator hugely motivating (www.whatsthecost.co.uk) and also managed to slash my spending by keeping a spending diary (stopped my buying clothes I didn't need and helped me save over £100 by taking my lunch into work etc etc.

I am part of the pay of £20k by christmas challenge (will miss it as just moved house which has cost quite a bit but should still be on for £18k hopefully) - I'll post a link in a mo, people on there are doing allsorts. I am quite lucky as I earn quite a bit and just had to realise that and stop buying utter rubbish and divert money to my debt instead but there are some people on there who are doing lots of great challenges like make £10 a day etc.

Link to pay £20k by xmas (not everyone is doing £20k, everyone has set their own target)
