Alternatives to Postal Orders

Hello all!
I'm an American overseas student studying here in London. I regularly have to pay bills with postal orders as I don't qualify for an account that issues cheques. I can't believe how expensive postal orders are! In the U.S. they only cost 60 cents usd depending on the brand! Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to Postal Orders? I'm specifically looking for a paper alternative, as I'm not comfortable paying my utilities on credit/debit.
Cheers!

Have you checked if your bills allow you to pay at a PayPoint? Most Newsagents and corner shops have the yellow PayPoint terminal installed. You can pay with cash at these.0

I don't need a student account, and the bill is not utility related. I'm making payment to an office that I just can't get to during office hours to pay cash, so I have been buying a postal order to put in their post box personal security and record of the payment. Is there any product similar to a postal order besides a postal order?0

If you were to open a Student Account (which I can't see would be a big problem..lots of International Students), then you would get a cheque (check) book, which you could use to pay things without additional chargeHi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
