If, as you state in the original post, there is very little equity in the property, you would not be disqualified from claiming jointly.You would not have any entitlement if your and your partner's joint capital (including equity) exceed £16,000.However, as per previous post, there are circumstances in which the other property is disregarded.NB when calculating equity, the council has to disregard 10% for selling costs.e.g. Property worth £225,000, with £200,000 mortgage.90% of £225,000 is £202,500 (I think)less mortgage = £2,500.0

Better to just stick it out for the few months it will take you to get a job imo.
You're a couple and as such, your OH should be prepared to pool finances for this period. Surely you'd do the same for her if she were temporarily without an income?
The alternative could be a prosecution for fraud and I'm not sure how good a career move that would be!0
