Mary janes VALUE - OOPSIES - REDUCED and BOGOF thread

My mission - stop buying crap that i dont need! there! its that simple:rotfl:

Everything from now on must be either BOGOF, REDUCED, VALUE or HAVE A BIG YELLOW STICKER ON IT. Nothing shall be full price - apart from petrol of course:mad:

This not only goes for food but for clothes and other household items too including nappies (both value ones and second hand reusables).

At the moment apart from rent our biggest out goings are food, currently 50 a week, ideally it needs to be 30ish, we are a family of 2 adults and 2 children (8 and 3).

I have however kept hold of coco pops boxes and PG tips box (i dont think dp would ever notice they dont have pg embossed on the bags) just to make the transition easier:rolleyes: Luckily all our freezer stuff gets depackaged so we can cram more in there so i dont think 'brand fever' would be a problem there either.

Wish me luck:j

Great idea - just make sure your BOGOFs aren't still more expensive than buying 2 of a different brand etc. Good luck!

    Good luck.:T

If you are near a Morrisons, then try going about 45 mins before they close. I have had great knockdown food at that time of a night. A whole cooked chicken for 69p. Bread rolls...a bag with about 8 in for 9p,and 6 large fresh baked sausage rolls for 19p. I have come out of there with bags full of goodies and not paid even half of the recommended price.

I love the yellow stickers, we've sussed out exactly when the best time to go is. We hardly ever pay full price for anything, and often reminisce about the good hauls... a big pile of 10p fresh pizzas was great. If I had room I'd seriously think about getting a chest freezer so I could really stock up when it's a good night.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • be careful the reduced section gets addictive!lol i have a freezer full of food covered with reduction stickers... i have the added benefit of working in a shop though so get all the bargains at the end of the day!

I love yellow stickers and you can regularly find a fair amount of them in my freezer. I particularly love picking up the "luxury" items, freezing them and then defrosting them and feeding them to my in-laws when they come to stay for the weekend. They are confirmed Waitrose/M&S shoppers who would rather starve than eat anything with a yellow sticker attached...I have actually seen them pick up food at full price where the identical item has a reduced sticker on it, even if they are eating the item for dinner an hour later(!) because the full price item must be "better" than the reduced item...?!?!

I get a fiendish delight in knowing that they are eating yellow-stickered items but not telling them - they loved the Waitrose lemon tart and clotted cream for dessert last time they came round :D, and the luxury bread selection I served alongside the main course!!;) The Pizza Express pizzas went down well for supper, too... :p

    If only they knew...ha, ha...:rotfl:

Does anyone know if this is the general rule for most Morrisons or just depends on branch to branch? I don't live that close to one but I want to go cos everyone keeps telling me it's so much cheaper than anywhere else so I thought I'd do a round trip (as the petrol station next door is 2p a litre cheaper than round here too :p ). So if they all reduce an hour or so before closing I'll plan my trip in the evening just incase! :D

Piglet, I had to giggle at your post, you must love sitting opposite your inlaws watching them eating that meal that not only was yellow stickered and the date ran out that day, but it was also frozen! :rotfl:

where i am the quality of the veg etc at Morrissons is naff... would rather go to ASDA but i would have to get taxis both ways, and at Morrissons i can walk there and get a taxi back... (we have no nice green grocers near here...)

the only bargins i tend to find are of the pie variety...
