Paying in cheques in NZ$.HELP!

MY 5 yr old daughter has recently started receiving regular child maintenance cheques) taken from her errant father) by the Inland revenue nz, and they will only send a cheque in my name which is of course losing my daughter a hefty transfer/exchange fee every time we pay one in!
Our accounts in lloyds are charging 8% on any amount paid in, and my other enquiry with halifax has returned a charge of £10 on any cheque under £200, over that amount the cheque is sent off to their international dept to be cleared incurring a wait of 8 wks per cheque!
The IRD in nz seem to be very outdated in their practice of not sending a direct transfer/electronic money order, and insisting on sending an old fashioned cheque but they tell me this is non negotiable, its just the way they do it!
So i am looking for a decent acc with a nice savings % to accept this cheque(more or less monthly)that doesnt charge more than8% or £10 respectively.
CAN ANYONE HELP!!??
