default notice on credit report

Had a default notice served on me more than 5 years ago when i failed to pay off balance of £157.00 to mail order company. Paid the debt immediately and although credit record states that this debt was settled in full in one payment, its still there in black and white for all to see. Can I do anything to have this removed?

I am afraid to say that once a default notice is issued it stays on your file for 6 years. It stays once the debt is paid, and there is nothing you can do to remove it.

Did you ever sign a credit agreement for this account? can the company in question prove this to you by supplying you with a copy of the SIGNED agreement ?

if not then the default should be removed as no enforceable agreement was in place anyway !
