Mattress for a child

I am looking for a mattress for my boy who is aged 10. Ideally would like to spend less than £100 but willing to go above that if the mattress is of good quality.
Have seen some mattresses on the website but never heard of the manufacturer. Are they any good or should i stick to known brands like silentnight or airsprung?
Should i be looking for medium or medium/firm mattress? Son is of normal built and is not overweight.
Any recommendations where to get a good priced mattress?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

It is always best to buy the best mattress you can afford. He will soon grow up and get a lot heavier so there is no point in buying a cheap mattress that will sag and be uncomfortable. You could go to a john Lewis or any department store and try the mattresses out there and buy one in the sales which will start soon. My son who is now 13 tried out the mattresses to see which one was most comfortable for him (not cool i know) as what i thought was comfy was not for him! Look in the shop soiled section which are basically things that have been brought back unused, you might be lucky to find a bargain. Hope this helps.0
