Job Centre's

Options
So my local Job Centre has had a refit at the cost of about 450k.

I went in to sign this week and was told that No Job Search facillities will be
available, In the sense of that I used to be able to search via a computerised
touch screen that would then print out the job details.

But now they wont do that the only day I can search for a job is the day
that I sign (once a fortnight).

And after doing a search and finding a job you will have to phone a 0845
number to enquire about the job......

Job Centres suck.........

So what was the point of the refit....

Simple answer. The relevant government department found out that it had not spent all its allocated money. Therefore to avoid getting their budget cut the following year they start throwing money at useless and unnecessary projects just to get rid of it. A very common practice in the civil service.

Also you don't expect a civil servant to work in a tatty office do you ... got to have some luxury and fresh paintwork - not forgetting the desk that must be at least 18 months old and due replacement :D

I once went to a Jobcentre that was a big room divided by the desks that you spoke them about things and it was xmas time. They had put decorations up in their part of the room and not one in the public side!:rotfl:It was a good while ago but shows what they thought of the unemployed at the time!

At my nearest Jobcentre you are "accosted" by a person with a clipboard as soon as you go in. They stand in between you and reception desk, which is only about 4 feet away, then ask you what you want, then very often direct you at reception. I don't know who makes decisions about decor, facilities and who does what job but some of the unemployed should have these jobs not them!

Many, many years ago Fran when I worked in a bank we decided to decorate at Christmas time but were only allowed to "do" the staff side and not the public side icon8.gif

For once perhaps it was just an honest message to the public: Jobcentre - "You're going to have a crap xmas cos you've got no job", Bank - "We are not increasing your overdraft/giving you a loan so forget the xmas dinner & presents". ;)

To be honest I dont agree with the knocking of the staff who work in job centre/civil serivce,(as a former civil servant) they're just staff. At the end of the day, if your employers say 'were going to modernise the office and do it all out so its nice and new', is it the staffs fault ?. Same goes for office furniture, I wish everything had been so modern in my old office..

I do agree with the idea that the money has been wasted, in that, why spend £450K updating to a JobCenter Plus if your not going to offer a facility for jobs, might as well not bother .
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
