To promote fired safety during National Child Safety week, we've got 10 x Ei3100RF smoke alarms to give away - worth £400.

Ei Electronics, the UK’s leading manufacturer of fire safety products will once again be highlighting the issues behind this years Child Safety Week (23rd – 29th June 08), themed “Make a Change, Make a Difference and organised by the Child accident Prevention Trust (CAPT).

Child accident prevention isn’t about wrapping children up in cotton wool, it’s about arming parents and children with the knowledge they need to prevent serious injuries from happening and creating environments where children can be active safely.

Every week, 6 children die and a further 2,000 are admitted to hospital as a result of an accident – many of these are related to fire. Did you know that on average each year 6,000 fires are started by children under the age of 10 years of age?

Children are naturally drawn to the heat and warmth of fire but without proper guidance, this can turn into a dangerous and sometimes deadly obsession. So what can you do as a parent, grandparent or carer?

Ei Electronics suggest you lead by example. By displaying caution and care whilst cooking, lighting candles and dealing with other fire related situations, children should be given clear instructions on what they should and shouldn’t do when it comes to fire. Above all, they should be told that it is never safe to play with fire in any instance.

Ei suggests some simple rules to introduce your child to:

• Never play with a lit candle
• Never play close to a fire or heater
• Never leave toys or clothing near a fire or heater
• Never play with electrical appliances or put things in sockets
• Never put things on heaters or lights
• Never play with matches or lighters and always give them to an adult

However, its not always as simple as just telling your child how not to start a fire. Accidental fires do and can happen so it’s important to have a reliable smoke alarm system in place should the unthinkable occur, such as the new RF wireless communication smoke alarm system from Ei Electronics.

Using the Ei3100RF smoke alarms offers instant warning of fire though out the home, when one alarm sounds, they all sound! This is achieved using Radio Frequency technology to ‘speak’ to each Ei3100RF alarm in the house. Such a design gives the occupants an early warning, giving them valuable extra time to escape.

The Ei3100RF complies to British Standard Part 1 2000, carries the British Kitemark and is available to buy from Homebase.

Looking after a child is a full time job and keeping them safe will keep you busy at the best of times, so take one less worry out of your life and make a change in relation to fire safety, it could make all the difference.

i wouldnt rely/wait on a competition to make your home safe..

battery operated alarms are widely available, for a fraction of the value given.. maybe even free- check with local fire brigade (NOT via 999 number though!)

I'm pretty sure folks aren't looking out for smoke alarm comps in the hopes that they win them before their home burns down.....

But an extra one might come in handy for additional cover.
    ;)
